A Harrison County man is being held without bond in Harrison County Jail this morning after the attempted capital murder of a Harrison County sheriff's deputy, Harrison County Administrative Deputy Jay Webb said.
Just after 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, 80-year-old Merrill H. Wickware fired shots at Lt. Duana Couch, who was conducting an investigation regarding a seizure order for a recreational vehicle. A 22-caliber bullet grazed the left side of her head at Wickware's home in the 5000 block of FM 9 south of Waskom.
"As the shots were fired from the mobile home, the deputy was shot in the head," Webb said.
The deputy was transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Marshall, but her medical condition was not immediately available Thursday morning.
Charges were filed with the Harrison County District Attorney this morning for the attempted capital murder of a peace officer, Webb said.
