The ArtWalk will be a Friday event for the first time this week, and organizer Shannon Gilliland said she hopes combining it with the music event Downtown Live! will draw more people to both.
"They're both free, they're both fun, and we're hoping that people who come for the music will stay for the visual arts displays or vice versa," Gilliland said.
Gilliland will highlight the new location of her business, Shannon's Beading Basket at 207 N. Horaney, during the ArtWalk.
"I'm excited about this space, because it allows us to get the artwork out front, rather than having it more toward the back," she said. "It's also more spacious and will allow us to provide more wall space to local artists."
ArtWalk will feature 14 locations, most of them within walking distance of Heritage Plaza, where the Downtown Live! music event takes place.
"We've got all the usual suspects, plus a new gallery, Bella Mia," Gilliland said. "This is always a fun event for many of the downtown businesses, not just the one that are specifically art-related."
There will be plenty of food and beverage options available, she said. Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase at Heritage Plaza and many of the ArtWalk locations offer complimentary snacks and beverages. Most downtown restaurants also will be open.
"This is a fun event for artists, because they get a chance to meet people who are interested in their work and explain some of their processes and inspirations," Gilliland said.
While works of art will be for sale at most of the venues, there is no charge to attend the event. For information, visit: www.artwalklongview.com.
