Police: Longview teen shot, killed in foiled apartment robbery
Dec. 18, 2012 at 10 p.m.
A Longview teenager was shot and killed Monday night while breaking into an apartment during what police say was an attempted robbery.
Noah Wood, 17, was fatally shot when the apartment resident defended himself with a rifle, police said.
A second suspect was arrested Tuesday and charged with aggravated robbery in the case.
"The suspect assaulted the residents and was shot by the resident with a rifle," Longview police officials said in a prepared statement.
Officers responded to the shooting about 10 p.m. Monday at Towne Oaks North apartments in the 2600 block of North Eastman Road.
Wood's most recent address did not indicate he lived in the apartment or the apartment complex, said police spokeswoman Debra Stiles.
Gregg County Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace B.H. Jameson said the cause of death was a gunshot wound and ordered an autopsy.
According to the statement from Longview police, the investigation is ongoing; however, it will be forwarded to the district attorney's office.
Police did not release the name of the apartment tenants.
