A Marshall man with a warrant for violating his parole was arrested Thursday afternoon in Harrison County after a chase involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
Marshall police arrested 29-year-old Jessie James Washington III about noon after officers attempted to stop him for running a stop sign, Assistant Chief Leland Benoit said.
Benoit said Washington disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Wood Street and West Houston Street.
"Marshall police attempted to detain the driver who appeared to be complying at first but then sped away from the officer," Benoit said in a press release.
The chase continued on U.S. 80 toward Hallsville until Washington came to a stop near Fire Tower Road and fled on foot.
He was arrested a short time later.
Benoit said their department was assisted by the Harrison County Sheriff's Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Parks and Wildlife and the city marshal's office.
Washington was charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle. He also had an outstanding Marshall police warrant for speeding and a warrant from the Texas Department of Correction in Austin for violating his parole.
Benoit said he would remain in Harrison County Jail until he could be transferred to the correction facility in Marshall.
