The Longview ISD school board has called a special meeting to discuss its superintendent vacancy.
Trustees plan to meet at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ware Elementary School on Garfield Street. The only action item on their agenda is to consider the process for the selection of a superintendent of schools.
The school board accepted Superintendent James Wilcox's resignation on Dec. 12. The resignation was effective Dec. 31. Deputy Superintedent Andrea Mayo has been serving as interim superintendent since Jan. 1.
Wilcox came to Longview ISD from Waxahachie ISD in April 2007. Wilcox said he hasn't made any immediate full-time work plans, but intends to remain active in educational circles and Longview-area organizations. Under his leadership, district voters approved an almost $267 million bond election to build or renovate all of the district's campuses. He also oversaw the district reducing 28 attendance zones to six.
