Hopson facing defeat in District 11 House race

Incumbent District 11 State Rep. Chuck Hopson was facing defeat Tuesday at the hands of Travis Clardy in the Republican primary election.
With 24 of 45 precincts reporting in the three-county district, Clardy had 7,734 votes, or 65 percent of the total, to Hopson's 4,254 votes. In his home county of Nacogdoches, Clardy took more than a four-to-one advantage over Hopson.
Clardy had 4,473 votes in Nacogdoches County to Hopson's 894 votes. While Hopson led voting in his home, Cherokee County, that was not near enough to over Clardy's strong Nacogdoches County total.
Hopson was leading in Cherokee County with 2,502 votes to 1,286 for Clardy. In Rusk County, Clardy had 1,975 votes to Hopson's 858 with precincts still out.
