White Oak Independent School District has won the Class 2A Lone Star Cup, which honors the school with the best overall academic, athletic and fine arts programs in the state.
According to the University Interscholastic League, the Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to five high schools, one in each of the five UIL classifications (1A to 5A), based on their team performance in district and state championships. Standings include state and area marching band, team tennis, cross country, volleyball, football, swimming and diving, wrestling, girls basketball, boys basketball, soccer, golf, track and field, academics, one-act play, softball and baseball.
The winning schools in each classification receive the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy and a $1,000 scholarship, also presented by the UIL.
White Oak won the 2A cup with second place going to Melissa ISD and third place to Brock ISD. Earlier this month the high school announced it had won the Class 2A Academic UIL state title and earlier in the year, the Roughnecks boys basketball team won the Class 2A state championship.
