June 19, 2012 at 11 p.m.
First Baptist Church-Hawkins
Father's Day (June 17) was a very extraordinary day. On Sunday morning, the congregation watched Courageous. It was shown on a giant screen erected in the auditorium. The movie was about the importance of fathers. It was a powerful message that was well received.
We enjoyed a concert Sunday night in the newly renovated Family Life Center with Project String Power. This group of 20 musicians, ranging in age from 14 – 65 from all over East Texas, performed a variety of instrumental and vocal pieces. They were led by Mr. Leonard Kacenjar, director of the Marshall Symphony Orchestra. The group will be performing in Ireland in July. This was an amazing concert by extremely talented persons. It was a great worship experience through music.
Next Sunday, a group of FBC adults and high school students will leave for Joplin, Missouri. They will spend a week doing disaster recovery from the massive tornado that hit Joplin last year. Rev. Seth Johnston will be our pulpit guest on Sunday, preaching in the morning and night services.

On June 17, 2012, Bro. Jeremiah Dollgener gave a sermon titled "Building a Spiritual Legacy." He used Deut. 6:1-8 as his reference. Before you can build a spiritual legacy, you must come to the cross. A good father starts with the fear of God not with putting a roof over their head or food on the table. A father must love the Lord and last, but not least, he must pass the teaching down to his children. A VBS video was shown to the congregation. A total of 100 children were enrolled in VBS and several asked Jesus into their hearts. Thank you to all who volunteered. Pastor Dollgener will be out of the office Monday-Wednesday. Thanks so much to Buzz Payne for installing the overhead camera for the praise songs.

Pastor Liz Elkins gave a message from Proverbs on wisdom and understanding. Members of the congregation read verses from Proverbs Chapters 1, 2, 3, and 4. Sister Elkins reminded people that Knowledge without wisdom and understanding is futile. She said understanding is knowledge seasoned, and we should prioritize wisdom and seek after and cherish understanding. Pastor Elkins said we should all pray for the Fathers across the land, and we need more fathers to be stand-up Christian Fathers in this land. She noted not everyone was raised with a great Christian Father, and some people have a difficult time because of this lack of loving, Christian leadership.
