Neighborhood vandals slashed tires and wrote graffiti on dozens of cars parked next to the road in central Longview neighborhoods early Thursday.
The Longview Police Department does not yet know the extent of the vandalism or when it was committed, said a police spokeswoman.
Victims of the vandalism establish a window in which the vandalism occurred.
Matt Adams, who lives on Redbud Lane, found the vandalism at 5:30 a.m., when he woke up to get a 16th anniversary breakfast for his wife.
Other victims indicated they had returned home after 11 p.m. Wednesday night, and they had not noticed any vandalism at that time.
A photographer on the scene estimated at least 40 vehicles were damaged.
