Nov. 3, 2012 at 10 p.m.

Staff writer Jimmy Carter takes a by-the-numbers look at the Longview Lobos' 52-6 win at Tyler Lee on Friday.

Seed in Division II can be clinched by Longview with a win against Rockwall next week. The Lobos are in position to earn the top Division II spot in District 12-5A because of their win against Tyler Lee and Rockwall-Heath's 21-14 win over North Mesquite, which ensured Mesquite Horn will be a Division I team.

Tackles this season by linebacker DeMarkus Lathan and safety Corey Bartley, who are tied for first on the team. Lathan caught Bartley by finishing with six tackles Friday.

<strong>491</strong>

Yards of total offense for Longview, a season-high. The Lobos ran for 257 yards and threw for 234. The previous season high was a 452-yard effort in the 45-14 win at Lufkin on Sept. 21. Longview entered Friday averaging just 297.5 yards per game.

Yard punt return for a touchdown by Nakia Brown was negated by the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty he drew for unbuckling his chinstraps and celebrating before he reached the end zone. The officials enforced the 15-yard penalty from the 1-yard line and fullback Jeremy Powell scored on a 16-yard run the next play. It would have been Brown's second punt return for a score this season. He returned a punt 85 yards for a score against North Little Rock.

Tackles recorded by sophomore defensive end Jaylon Jackson, senior linebacker Torean Sheppard and junior safety Travin Howard, all tied for the team-high. Sheppard's 91 tackles ranks third on the team, while Howard has 35 and Jackson has 28.

With just one day to go before Tuesday elections, Longview residents are urged to determine beforehand where they will be going to vote - and to remember a few rules.

If early voting totals are any indication, Election Day is going to be busy.
