Pine Tree receives votes in latest baseball poll

Riding a seven-game win streak, Pine Tree enters their regular season finale against Mount Pleasant battling for their first district championship in over a decade.

The Pirates' late-season surge – which includes wins over then-ranked Hallsville and defending 3A state champion Lufkin Hudson (ranked No. 7 in the poll) – has earned them votes in the latest Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association poll for the first time this season.

Pine Tree (19-10, 7-2 in 14-4A) travels to Mount Pleasant at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Hughes Springs sits atop the Class 2A rankings after turning in a perfect regular season at 26-0 overall and 14-0 in District 16-2A.

District 17-2A champion White Oak ranks at number four in 2A. The Roughnecks will host Class 2A No. 1 and undefeated Carlisle in a playoff tune-up game at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Big Sandy comes in at No. 5 in the Class A poll with a 21-3, 13-1 record.
