Plans are in the works for construction of a new nursing home on Hawkins Parkway, which will join other senior living options under construction.
Dallas-based Mason Health will operate a 140-bed, 55,000-square-foot nursing home at 1154 E. Hawkins Parkway. It's in the same area where Tyler-based Abby Development is building an assisted living and memory care facility and independent living apartments and cottages.
"We kind of complete that circle by bringing that nursing home component," said Craig Kelly, Mason Health chief executive officer.
Mason hired Tyler-based SCI Construction to build the facility, which Kelly said should be finished in about 10 months.
The city of Longview issued a building permit this month with a construction value of $6 million for the project.
State and local records show a skilled nursing facility hasn't been built in Longview in about six years.
Mason's new nursing home is a "really forward design," with a lot of private rooms, Kelly said. It will include a Medicare short-term stay wing that will be separate, with a separate dining area, from the long-term stay unit.
"It's a really nice building," Kelly said, with a lot of exposed wood and attention to detail. "We're excited about the design."
The facility will employ 120 full- and part-time employees, he said.
Mason Health was founded in 2008 and operates facilities in Coppell, Georgetown, Round Rock, Austin, Friendswood and Mesquite.
