A Mount Pleasant man was held in the Titus County Jail Monday suspected of burglarizing and torching a downtown building early Sunday.
Police Chief Wayne Isbell said Edvardo Antonio Rodriguez, 23, was taken into custody on Washington Street a few blocks from KMPL-TV shortly after a fire was reported in the building on West 3rd Street, about 2:20 a.m.
Isbell said Rodriquez matched the description of a man who a firefighter said was near the scene and who ran away when approached.
Isbell said firefighters determined the business had been broken into and set on fire from the inside. Police also found an adjacent business had been burglarized. Both business were damaged by fire and smoke.
Rodriguez was arrested and charged with two counts of burglary of a building, arson and public intoxication, Isbell said.
