East Texans Ward, Haskins among Ford Tough honorees

ARLINGTON - East Texas standouts Greg Ward of John Tyler and Damien Haskins of New Boston were among six players honored on Saturday as Texas Built Ford Tough High School Players of the Year.
Ward was named the Class 4A Player of the Year, and Haskins earned 2A honors at the annual banquet held at Cowboys Stadium. The awards are co-sponsored by Ford and the Dallas Cowboys.
Also honored on Saturday were Southlake Carroll quarterback Kenny Hill in 5A, Stephenville quarterback Tyler Jones in 2A, Stamford quarterback Hagen Hutchinson in Class A and Plano Prestonwood linebacker Mike Mitchell for private schools.
Ward completed 280 of 400 passes for 4,202 yards with 44 touchdowns and five interceptions while carrying 170 times for 861 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Haskins carried 288 times for 3,207 yards and 53 touchdowns, earning Offensive Player of the Year honors on the Longview News-Journal/ETvarsity.com All-East Texas Team.
Ward was the first team quarterback on the LN-J/ETvarsity.com team.
Hill completed 206 of 306 passes for 3,373 yards with 27 touchdowns and three interceptions while carrying 191 times for 1,403 yards and 33 scores.
Jones completed 266 of 385 passes for 4,004 yards with 43 touchdowns and seven interceptions and rushed for 1,013 yards and 24 touchdowns on 150 carries.
Hutchinson carried 176 times for 1,636 yards and 27 touchdowns and completed 226 of 337 passes for 3,038 yards with 45 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Mitchell racked up 190 tackles, four sacks, seven quarterback pressures, five forced fumbles and also had a 100-yard kickoff return.
