TxDOT plans $3.5M Marshall Avenue project

Millions of dollars worth of highway construction projects are scheduled across Northeast Texas in the coming year, including a $3.5 million effort to widen and add curbs and gutters to Marshall Avenue in Longview.

Close to $2 million in road construction projects in and around Kilgore and $14 million for work on George Richey Road in Longview are also planned.

Here is a look at projects that received final or tentative approval for 2013:

<strong>Gregg County</strong>

U.S. 80 (Marshall Avenue in Longview) - Widening to accommodate continuous left-turn lane and adding curb-and-gutter between Texas 42 in White Oak and Fisher Road in Longview. The $3.5 million project is scheduled to begin this spring. Reynolds & Kay Ltd. of Tyler, is the contractor.

U.S. 259 - Constructing a left-turn lane at Synergy Park in Kilgore. The estimated $450,000 project is scheduled to let to contract in August.

FM 349 - Widening to accommodate continuous left-turn lane in Kilgore between Texas 31/U.S. 259 Business intersection and railroad bridge west of U.S. 259 (Kilgore bypass). The estimated $1.2 million project is scheduled to let to contract in August.

Texas 42 - Widening to accommodate continuous left-turn lane in Kilgore between Texas 31 and Interstate 20. The estimated $600,000 project is scheduled to let to contract in August.

FM 2275 (George Richey Road in Longview) - Building the second segment of a new four-lane divided roadway between McCann Road and Spur 502 (Judson Road). The estimated $8 million project is scheduled to let to contract in August.

FM 2275 (George Richey Road) – Building the third segment of new four-lane divided roadway between Spur 502 (Judson Road) and U.S. 259. The estimated $6 million project is scheduled to let in August.

<strong>Rusk County</strong>

FM 2276, Texas 323 - Adding shoulders to FM 2276 between U.S. 259 north of Henderson and Loop 571; adding shoulders to Texas 323 between Texas 42 and Loop 571, and seal-coating between Texas 135 in Overton and Texas 64 in Henderson.

The estimated $1.9 million project is scheduled for completion this spring. Reynolds & Kay Ltd. of Tyler is the contractor.

FM 840, FM 1251, FM 1798 - Adding shoulders to FM 840 between U.S. 79 and FM 2867, to FM 1251 between Texas 43 and FM 2658, and on FM 1798 between FM 840 and FM 348. The approximate $3.7 million project is scheduled for completion this summer. L.S. Equipment Co. Inc. of Henderson, is the contractor.

FM 1798 - Building an overpass for FM 1798 at U.S. 259 near Minden. The approximate $5.5 million project let in June 2011 is scheduled for completion in 2014. Longview Bridge and Road Ltd. of Longview is the contractor.

FM 95 - Reconstructing the road between the south end of the previous work completed in early 2012 and FM 1971 just north of the Nacogdoches county line. The approximate $700,000 project let to contract in November and is scheduled to begin construction in February. A.L. Helmcamp, Inc. of Buffalo is the contractor.

Texas 64 Business - Widening to five lanes the eastbound approach to the bottleneck intersection with Marshall Street, North Mill Street and Highland Drive west of the Henderson Star. The project will make possible a future project to redesign the intersection itself. The estimated $1.3 million project is scheduled to let to contract in August.

Seal coat roads: U.S. 259 between south end of Kilgore Bypass and FM 850; Texas 135 between Texas 42 in New London and the Smith County Line in Overton; FM 782 between FM 1716 in Oak Hill and SH 149 near Easton; FM 3053 between the Gregg County Line and FM 850 in Overton

<strong>Wood County</strong>

Projects under construction:

Texas 154 – Widening bridge over Dry Creek just west of Quitman to add shoulders. The approximate $2.5 million let to contract in July 2012 and is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2013. Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., of Longview, is the contractor.

FM 778 – Adding shoulders and applying a seal coat between SH 37 in Quitman and FM 49 in Hainesville. The approximate $2.2 million project let to contract in March 2012, began construction in May and is scheduled for completion in spring 2013. Longview Bridge and Road is the contractor.

Upcoming FY 2013 projects:

Texas 154 – Adding shoulders between Texas 37 in Quitman and southern end of bridges at Lake Fork. The approximate $5.8 million project let in October and is scheduled to begin in summer 2013. D.L. Lennon of Commerce, is the contractor.

U.S. 69 – Adding passing lanes between FM 779 in Golden and Loop 564 in Mineola. The estimated $2.6 million project is scheduled to let to contract in June.

Seal coat roads: FM 1799 between U.S. 69 near Golden and U.S. 80 west of Mineola; Texas 182 between U.S. 69 in Alba and Texas 154 west of Quitman; FM 1804 between U.S. 80 in Hoard and the Smith County line; FM 2966 between Texas 54 in Yantis and Loop 173 in Quitman.

<strong>Bowie County</strong>

Spending $26 million to widen U.S. 82 to add passing lanes. The project is set to be let in August.

Spending $3.7 million to reconstruct the intersection of U.S. 59 and FM 989 with concrete paving. The project was let in September.

Camp County

Spending $254,000 to construct a left-turn lane on Texas 11 at the intersection of FM 21. The project is set to be let in June.

Harrison County

Spending $1.3 million to resurface westbound lanes of Interstate 20 for 7.9 miles from the Louisiana State line. The project is set to let in March.

Spending $8.6 million to replace bridges and approaches on FM 450. The project has tentative approval to be let in July.

Spending $1.45 million to rehabilitate bridge approaches on Texas 154. The project has tentative approval to be let in May.

Morris County

A project to rehabilitate U.S. 259 for $8.1 million is scheduled to be let in April.

Panola County

A project to overlay U.S. 59 in Panola County at a cost of $1.54 million was let in September.

A project to build a continuous left turn lane on Texas 149 is tentatively approved and scheduled to be let in June.

Titus County

A $19.8 million project is scheduled to be let in January to construct a two-lane highway from FM 1000 to FM 1735 as a relief road for U.S. 271. This is a five-mile section.

Tentative approval has been received to let a project in June for about $169,000 to build a left-turn lane on Texas 11 at the intersection of FM 1735.

Tentative approval has been received to let a bid for $838,000 in August to improve alignment and add turn lanes at Hart's Bluff School on FM 1402.

Upshur County

A $5.7 million project is set to let in January to rehabilitate U.S. 259 from FM 726 to near FM 450.

Tentative approval has been received to spend $2.6 million to replace bridge approaches on U.S. 80 at Big Sandy Creek. The project is scheduled to be let in July.

Tentative approval has been received to spend $1.8 million to install left turn lanes on U.S. 271 at FM 726. The project is scheduled to be let in July.

Tentative approval to spend about $1 million widen Texas 154 from 0.7 miles west of U.S. 259 to U.S. 259. The project is scheduled to be let in August.

Tentative approval to spend $18 million to replace the Sabine River bridge on Texas 155. The project is set to be awarded in July.
