City, county offices, area schools close for holiday

Area schools, city halls and county courthouses and federal offices will close today for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, including the post office.
Most banks are closed on the federal holiday.
Some city services will continue on normal schedules. That includes curbside trash collection in Longview, although the compost site will close today and Tuesday.
Trash collection in cities contracting with Republic Services will continue on normal schedule, said Republic Manager of Governmental Affairs Gene Keenon.
That includes residential trash pickup in Kilgore, Gladewater, White Oak, Big Sandy, Hawkins, Winona, Mount Pleasant, Daingerfield, Overton, Clarksville City, Marshall, Hawkins, Quitman and Warren City.
Libraries in Longview and Kilgore will be closed today.
The Broughton, Paula Martin Jones and the senior recreation centers in Longview will be closed today.
Longview Transit, the public bus transportation system, will remain open and on its regular schedule throughout the holiday.
Scheduling is unchanged today at East Texas Regional Airport, but administrative offices will be closed.

FedEx offices will not deliver on the federal holiday, according to its website. However, the UPS website says that delivery service does not close for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
