VICTORIA - Robert Parucha turned in a dominant performance on the mound, and the East Texas Pump Jacks opened a two-game series against the Victoria Generals with a 3-1 Texas Collegiate League win at Riverside Park.
Parucha (3-0) went the distance, striking out 10, walking one and giving up a run on three hits. He threw 102 pitches, and retired the Generals in order five times. All three hits against Parucha were singles.
The Pump Jacks, who improved to 19-20 overall and 4-5 in the second half of TCL play, got on the board in the top of the second when Jordan Price (New Diana) walked, stole second and third and scored on an error by the Generals' catcher.
Victoria (21-18, 4-5) tied things in the bottom of the frame on Kyle Thornell's RBI sacrifice fly. Jace Reese singled to lead off the inning, stealing second and moving to third on an infield groundout before hustling home on Thornell's fly ball.
East Texas capped the scoring in the top of the fourth as Joey Armstrong and Price singled and both came around to score on an error.
Parucha took over from there, retiring the Generals in order in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh. He gave up a single in the eighth and hit a batter in the ninth, but ended the game with a fly ball, a strikeout and a grounder to the shortstop.
The Pump Jacks and Generals meet again tonight in Victoria, and then East Texas will return to Kilgore to open a six-game homestand on Thursday against league-leading Brazos Valley. All games will have 7:05 p.m. starts at Driller Park.
