Carlisle players, coach honored on TSWA All-State team

BRYAN - Carlisle's Gunner Baker, who helped pitch and hit the Indians to the school's first state championship, was a triple winner on Monday with the release of the Collin Street Baker/Texas Sports Writers Association Class A All-State Baseball Team.
Baker earned Player of the Year honors as well as being a first team selection on the mound and an honorable mention pick in the outfield. Carlisle head coach Wesley Colley was named Class A coach of the year, and the Indians also had two more first team selections.
The team was selected by TSWA members based on nominations from coaches and sports writers from around the state.
Baker, the ETvarsity.com | Longview News-Journal Player of the Year, went 14-0 on the mound with a 0.23 earned run average, 177 strikeouts and 37 walks in 88.1 innings pitched, tossing three no-hitters and a perfect game. At the plate, he hit .446 with a home run, seven doubles, one triple, 59 RBIs, 45 runs scored and 30 stolen bases.
Wesley Colley led the Indians to a 29-1 record, earning the school's first state baseball title.
The Indians' Caleb Colley (.481, 11 doubles, four triples, three home runs, 45 RBIs, 43 runs scored, 33 stolen bases) was a first team selection at shortstop, and teammate Zach Brightwell (.453, three home runs, eight doubles, four triples, 42 RBis, 13 stolen bases, 50 runs scored) earned first team honors in the outfield.
Other East Texas selections included second baseman Steven Crump of Harleton (first team), Chantz Holland of Cayuga (first team third baseman, honorable mention pitcher), Alto outfielder Charlie Wallace (second team), Alto first baseman Tanner Jones (honorable mention) and Harleton shortstop Brooks Lloyd (honorable mention).
