BRYAN - Ronnie Gideon added one more accolade to his resume Thursday with the release of the Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association Class 4A All-State Baseball Team.

The Hallsville standout, who will continue his baseball career at Texas A&M, was selected as the first-team shortstop after capping his high school career with a .413 batting average, seven home runs and 37 RBIs. Gideon, the News-Journal/ETVarsity.com Hitter of the Year, walked 41 times this past season.

Fellow Bobcat Connor Reich was named an honorable mention pitcher and outfielder while Pine Tree's Spencer Anderson was tabbed an honorable mention catcher.

Reich finished his junior season with a 10-2 record off the mound with a 0.87 ERA. He struck out 143 batters in 88.1 innings of work.

Anderson paced the Pirates to their deepest playoff run in recent years, including a share of the 14-4A crown, with a .513 batting average, 36 runs scored, 14 doubles and 28 RBIs.

The team was selected by members of the TWSA based on nominations from sports writers and coaches from around the state.

Whitehouse's Ryan Cheatham was named a second team pitcher while fellow Wildcat Aaron Clemons was named a third team outfielder. Patrick Mahomes (pitcher and shortstop), Jared Raabe (outfielder) and Derek Clemons (catcher) rounded out the six Whitehouse players selected. Lindale's Sam Sitton was also named an honorable mention pitcher.

Tomball's Nick Banks was selected as the 4A Player of the Year and his coach, Doug Rush, was named Coach of the Year.
