BRYAN - TCL-leading Brazos Valley got a measure of revenge against East Texas on Saturday.
The Bombers struck for eight second-inning runs and cruised to a 9-1 home win three days after the Pump Jacks finished off a two-game series sweep in Kilgore.
Brazos Valley (38-11, 12-7) roughed up East Texas starter Austin Watson in the win. The left-hander lasted only 1 1/3 innings and gave up seven of the eight second-inning runs.
G.R. Hinsley's three-run home run highlighted the explosive second inning, a frame East Texas (23-25, 8-10) failed to recover in dropping its third consecutive game.
The Pump Jacks struck for their only run in the top of the fourth inning when a J.J. Robinson groundout scored Garrett McMullen. But that was all the offense they could muster despite outhitting Brazos Valley 9-6.
Bombers starter Brannon Eaterling earned the win after striking out eight and allowing the one run while scattering nine hits in seven innings.
East Texas continues the four-game series at Brazos Valley tonight at 7:05. The teams have Monday off before resuming the series Tuesday and finishing it Wednesday.
