FORT WORTH – Daingerfield's Edwin Mims had modest goals for the 79th Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Football Game.

Mims started at slot receiver and was joined by Longview's Cornelius Williams, Hallsville's Hayden Wall, and Gilmer's Brady English on the North squad.

"I just came up to here to have fun and represent for Daingerfield," Mims said, "and show them how we do it down there."

Mims didn't get many opportunities, carrying only two times for a net gain of 1 yard in the North's 39-29 win on Tuesday night at Amon Carter Stadium.

Mims is looking forward to playing for Navarro Junior College next season.

"I'll probably play inside receiver and tailback and some quarterback in the Wildcat," he said. "I just want to get in and play as a freshman and do the best I can."

The North receivers did everything they could, especially Lufkin's Jabryce Taylor and Whitehouse's Dylan Cantrell.

Taylor, who is headed to Southern Methodist University, was named the offensive MVP after catching 10 passes for a record 226 yards and three touchdowns.

Taylor broke the previous all-star record of 173 yards set by Percy Waddle of Columbus in 1986.

Cantrell, who will attend Texas Tech, had nine catches for 183 yards and two touchdowns.

North quarterbacks Tyler Jones, Nic Shimonek and Hagen Hutchinson combined to throw for 353 yards and four touchdowns. Demarcus Ayers added a halfback pass for a 64-yard touchdown.

The North All-Stars scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter on passes of 51 yards from Hutchinson to Taylor, and 12 yards from Jones to Cantrell, and a 9-yard run by Shimonek.

The South's Joshua Price from Fort Bend Hightower was named the defensive MVP. Price blocked two kicks, recovered one, and had two tackles.
