A Longview man was arrested Wednesday when police said he tried to meet a person he thought was 14 to have sex.
Russell Glen West, 54, of Longview was arrested at 5 p.m. Wednesday by Longview police and charged with online solicitation of a minor after a month long conversation with an undercover law enforcement agent, according to police spokeswoman Deborah Stiles.
West believed the law enforcement agent was a 14-year-old child, according to the probable cause affidavit for his arrest.
According to the document, West held a monthlong conversation with the person "using electronic mail communications and text messages."
Stiles said she could not discuss the content of the messages because the case was still under investigation.
West was arrested Wednesday in the 300 block of Lake Lamond Road when he went to meet the minor for sex.
He was held Thursday in the Gregg County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
No other arrests were made in connection with the case, Stiles said.
