ET Football: Lobos' Howard, Waskom's Johnson named Players of the Week

<a href="http://www.news-journal.com/etvarsity/high_school/schools/waskom/" target="_blank"><strong>Waskom's</strong></a> Kevin Johnson and <a href="http://www.news-journal.com/etvarsity/high_school/schools/longview/" target="_blank"><strong>Longview's</strong></a> Travin Howard helped their teams remain unbeaten in district play on Friday, earning ETvarsity.com Player of the Week honors in the process.
Johnson is the top offensive player after running wild in the Wildcats' 56-24 win over Linden-Kildare. Howard picked up defensive honors after helping the Lobos roll to a <a href="http://www.news-journal.com/etvarsity/high_school/lobos-roll-past-rockwall-heath/article_67a9b804-32f7-11e3-b051-0019bb2963f4.html" target="_blank">42-10 win over Rockwall Heath</a>.
Johnson carried just nine times on Friday against Linden-Kildare, but made the most of his opportunities by rushing for 337 yards and scoring five touchdowns. He scored on runs of 59, 64, 58, 54 and 45 yards.
For the season, Johnson has carried 53 times for 772 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Howard finished with eight tackles, broke up two passes and returned a punt 81 yards for a touchdown to help the Lobos build a 21-0 halftime lead against Heath. It marked the third straight week the Lobo defensive standout has scored. He returned interceptions the distance in each of the previous two games.
For the year, Howard has 44 tackles, a sack, five tackles for losses, a forced fumble, five passes broken up, four interceptions and a blocked punt.
Longview (5-1, 2-0) will host Mesquite Horn in a District 12-5A battle on Friday. Waskom (6-0, 3-0) will visit Elysian Fields in District 9-2A Division II action.
