KILGORE - An early morning fire has left one man dead and eight others displaced.
Of the nine people inside the home, including four children, Calvin Sickler was unable to escape the fire, according to his brother James Riggins.
"I tried to get him out, but I couldn't," Riggins said Thursday morning while standing outside the charred remains of the wood-frame home in the 700 block of Spell Street.
Fire officials said the fire started about 6:45 a.m. and the home was fully involved when they arrived on scene three minutes later.
"Fire was coming from every window, every eave," said Michael Simmons, assistant fire chief with the Kilgore Fire Department. "Prior to our arrival, two police officers were on scene trying to pull the victim from a window, but the fire was just too hot."
People inside the home at the time of the fire told officials the entire home was on fire when they woke up, Simmons said.
Fire officials have not determined the cause or where in the house the fire started.
None of the other occupants were injured in the blaze.
Simmons said Red Cross is assisting the family with shelter and basic needs.
