Miss Gregg County crowned

Autria Compton was named Miss Gregg County on Thursday night, beating out <a href="" target="_blank">six other young women</a>.

Compton attends Kilgore High School, where she is a member of the varsity tennis team, a cheerleader, the yearbook editor, a member of the National Honor Society and class president.

Compton also was named Miss Congeniality.

Along with the titles, Compton received more than $1,000 in gifts from area merchants, including at 32-inch TV, given by the Paisanos of East Texas.

Rebecca Ann Rowe, Miss Gladewater High School, was awarded the Spirit Award.

Rowe is a member of the varsity cheerleading, cross country and track teams; she is also in the student council and National Honor Society.

The event began at 6:15 p.m. with a dinner and interviews at Johnny Cace's Seafood & Steak House and then moved to the Longview Fairgrounds at 9 p.m. for the actual pageant and judging.

The Miss Gregg County Pageant was sponsored by the Longview Jaycees and has been a focal point of the Gregg County Fair and Exposition for the past 28 years.
