ET Basketball: Kilgore College men battle past Tyler; Kilgore women fall

<strong>NO. 9 KILGORE COLLEGE 63, TYLER JUNIOR COLLEGE 56:</strong> TYLER - Kalif Wright turned in 18 points to pace No. 9 Kilgore College to a 63-56 road win over rival Tyler Junior College on Wednesday.

Jamarcus Weatherspoon followed with 12 points and nine rebounds in the win for Kilgore, who improves to 20-2 overall and 11-2 in Region XIV action.

A back-and-forth matchup from the start, featuring 10 lead changes throughout, Kilgore took a 34-33 lead into halftime before outscoring the Apaches 29-23 in the second half with the Rangers building an eight-point lead at 50-42.

TJC shot just 22 percent from the field in the second half and 37 percent overall. Kilgore connected on 44 percent of its shots from the field.

Kilgore dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Apaches, 36-19, and putting up 18 points in the paint to two from TJC.

Todd Eaglin led TJC with 25 points and White Oak's Levi Yancy added four points, two rebounds, a block and an assist for the Apaches.

Kilgore College hosts Panola at 4 p.m. on Saturday in Kilgore.

<strong>WOMEN</strong>

<strong>NO. 16 TYLER JUNIOR COLLEGE 65, KILGORE COLLEGE 60:</strong> TYLER - No. 16 TJC used a second-half comeback in earlier action Wednesday to edge the Lady Rangers, 65-60.

Kilgore led 29-25 at the break before the Lady Apaches used 12-of-16 shooting from the charity stripe in the second half for the five-point win.

Malena Washington paced four Lady Apaches in double digits with 16 points. Chelsi Watson led TJC with eight rebounds to go along with nine points.

Imaobong Akpan finished with 13 points for Kilgore, followed by 12 and 11 points from Danesha Richardson and Alexis Hill, respectively.

Kilgore hosts Panola at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
