KILGORE – Jack McDavid and two relievers combined to pitch a three-hit shutout, and the Brazos Valley Bombers rebounded from a walk-off loss on Saturday with a 2-0 Texas Collegiate League win over the East Texas Pump Jacks on Sunday at Driller Park.
McDavid started on the hill and limited the Pump Jacks (4-6) to one hit in seven strong innings of work to earn the win.
He struck out three and walked two.
Pump Jacks' starter Allen Ellis shouldered the loss despite allowing just one run on three hits in eight innings of work.
He struck out three and walked one.
The Bombers (7-3), who dropped a 3-2 decision to the Pump Jacks in a 10-inning contest on Saturday, scored the only run they would need in the top of the first on Sunday when Hunter Haley tripled with two outs and scored on an error.
Brazos Valley added run in the top of the eighth against East Texas reliever Anthony Gonsolin. Haley again got things started, hustling all the way to second on an error. He was bunted to third and scored on a Blake Kopetsky groundout to make it a 2-0 contest.
The Pump Jacks got their first hit in the fourth on a leadoff single by Chris Osborne.
James Lear singled with two outs in the eighth, and Joe Moroney gave East Texas a chance with a leadoff single in the ninth before the Bombers ended things with a fly ball and a pair of infield grounders.
After an off night tonight, the Pump Jacks will visit Victoria for a two-game set Tuesday and Wednesday before returning home on Thursday for two games against Acadiana - followed by two more on Saturday and Sunday against Victoria.
