ET Football: Longview's Hasty makes Baylor his choice
March 29, 2014 at 11 p.m.
JaMycal Hasty still has a year ahead of him wearing Lobo green and gold.
Turns out, he's got a few more years left of wearing those colors.
Just over a week removed from picking up his eighth collegiate offer, Hasty - a four-star recruit - made his decision on Saturday that Baylor is where the speedy 2015 recruit will continue his football career.
Longview head coach John King confirmed Hasty's verbal commitment to the reigning Big 12 champions on Saturday.
"The style of offense that Baylor uses with the spread attack is something that JaMycal will fit perfectly into," King said. "He has the chance to be on the field every play - more than a role player. He can be an every down guy."
Hasty rushed for 1,413 yards and 13 touchdowns and hauled in 12 catches for 255 yards and three scores as a junior for Longview.
He also had a touchdown pass of nine yards and returned seven kickoffs for 127 yards.
"He's got a great understanding of football and is just extremely intelligent," King said. "He'll understand their schemes and what they're trying to do and will be able to make the adjustments he needs to at that level.
"Physically, his quickness, speed, agility, explosiveness all stand out. Great vision, great hands. He's a great receiver too that can catch the ball out of the backfield or lined up out wide."
Hasty picked up his eighth offer on March 21 from Oregon, choosing Baylor over Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, TCU and Houston.
King said not only is Baylor getting a perfect fit on the field but off the field as well.
"He's just a special kid," King said. "He's very smart, does well in school. He's very respectful and carries himself well.
"They're getting the total package."
