May 1, 2014 at 6:43 a.m.

A fire in the 200 block of Betty Street in Longview has been extinguished.

No one was at home when the fire started just after 12 p.m., Fire Marshal Johnny Zackary said.

Homeowners James and Martha Williams said they received a call about the fire while at work. The couple said the fire is believed to have originated in the wash room or the kitchen.

Zackary said smoke from the blaze could be smelled near LeTourneau University.

It is not immediately known how much damage occurred to the home; the fire department is continuing to investigate.
