"We want every visitor to feel like part of our big Italian family," said Jeff Sneed, owner of the 6-year-old vineyard. "Traveling to Los Pinos is like taking a mini-vacation without flying to Tuscany."
At the winery, be prepared for anything but a fast-paced affair. Get ready to sit back, relax and sip your cares away during an evening full of good food, live jazz music and out-of-this-world wines.
"At franchise restaurants, there's a huge rush to get you in and get you out. Not at my place," Jeff assured. "Unharrassed and laid-back is our style. We want each and every one of our guests to feel like family. Come out and stay awhile."
Along with great wines, Los Pinos offers up a full menu of quality tapas prepared by the resident chef, Chef Dana. The cuisine is not only delicious, but also health-conscious.
"There are no fryers here, and everything's made fresh to order," Jeff said. "A popular plate is the Tapas Platter, which is big enough for a group of six to nibble on through the night. It has a little sample of everything."
The vineyard hosts monthly events with themed cuisine and live music. Winery tours and wine tastings are offered for nominal fees.
Harvest time at Los Pinos usually begins near the end of July, starting with white grapes. Around mid-August, the harvest extends to the red grape varieties. But at Los Pinos, harvest time is about more than collecting grapes — it's about camaraderie.
"During harvest time, there's an open invitation for anyone who wants to come out for the day and help pick grapes," Jeff said. "It's a serious undertaking -- we're talking about 10 acres of vines — but we make a party out of it, and at the end of the day there's a cookout and drinks for all."
The winery and vineyards are located at 658 County Road 1334, well off the beaten path. Although there are signs pointing you in the right direction, keep your eyes peeled. It can be tricky!
"This is an experience ... a true adventure," Jeff said. "It's like a treasure hunt. Once you're here, you'll be more than happy with what you find."
