Weekend Wanders: Waterpark at The Villages

Wednesday, December 31, 2008

It's wild, it's wet and it's indoors, which makes Flint's Waterpark at The Villages a perfect year-round destination for the whole family. This indoor waterpark offers something for everyone, and the climate-controlled environment protects its splishers and splashers from the elements. So, grab your swimsuits and get ready to slide into excitement!

Encompassing 25,000 square feet of wet and wacky fun, the Piney Woods-themed Waterpark at The Villages, nestled next to beautiful Lake Palestine, opened its doors to crowds in January 2008, and has been a hot spot for vacationing families ever since.

"Our park is definitely fun for all ages ... we offer something for everyone, from the young to the young at heart," said Cathie Hayward, operations manager.

It's not just child's play at the park. While the younger kiddos enjoy a fun, forest ranger-themed area with small slides and fun dump buckets, the older crowd can play on three-story water slides and body slides, and adults can enjoy a relaxing ride down the lazy river or spend an afternoon playing in the gentle wave pool.

If you're not looking to get your feet wet, there are drier diversions to check out beneath the facility's expansive glass roof. Observer paths, seating areas and casual cafes are available for parents or guardians who'd rather just walk, read or watch a football game. A day at the park definitely makes any small city pool seem dull and dreary!

While this is a great way to spend a wintery afternoon, the park definitely heats up in the summertime!

"Our glass roof is retractable, so when the weather gets warmer we're able to let the sun shine in," Cathie said. "In the summer, we're busy all day, every day."

The Waterpark at The Villages puts the safety of their guests first by posting a fully licensed lifeguard stand at each attraction. Life jackets are also available upon request.

"Safety's first at our park," Cathie said. "We're fully staffed with lifeguards at all times who are trained not only in lifeguarding but also in first aid. We want everyone to come out and enjoy the experience, and know that they are in great hands. Relax, enjoy and have fun!"
