JEFFERSON — A Department of Public Safety trooper pursuing a vehicle was shot and killed Tuesday night in Marion County.
Trooper Scott Burns, 39, of Linden was shot just before 8 p.m. near the intersection of FM 1969 and FM 729 just northeast of Lake O' the Pines and west of Kellyville, DPS public information officer Sylvia Jennings said.

DPS spokeswoman Tela Mange said a resident got on the trooper's radio and reported to the dispatcher that the man had been shot. Authorities are looking for a 1997 blue Dodge Intrepid with Texas license 039-LCG.
At 10:45 p.m., law enforcement officials were covering intersections throughout the area, in an apparent effort to look for the Intrepid.
The body of the trooper remained in the patrol car surrounded by about 20 other law enforcement vehicles and as many or more peace officers.
Early reports said he was shot multiple times, possibly four.
Mange said Burns was married and father of a 5-month-old.
Before Tuesday, 82 DPS troopers had died in the line of duty.
The last death came March 14, 2007, when the patrol car of Trooper Todd Dylan Holmes was struck broadside by an 18-wheeler as he attempted to cross the highway to pursue a vehicle.
Also stationed in East Texas, Holmes, 29, was parked on the northbound shoulder of U.S. 59 just north of Marshall when he activated his emergency lights, began to turn toward the crossover to go south on U.S. 59 and was hit by the 18-wheeler.

We never know when our time will come when death is upon us...knowing this is why we must realize that the only way to 'peace within' is having had the acceptace of Jesus Christ as our own personal Saviour (Rom 10:9-13)...being "born again" before death! What Jesus did for us on that cruel old cross, making a payment for our sins with His Own Blood was he ultimate sacrafice! Without the shedding of His blood, there would NOT be any 'peace within'! Our prayers do go out to the family of this officer and we pray that salvation is drawn through them by the Holy Spirit soon, if not already! Praise the Lord for each and every blessed day He's given us! To God Be The Glory, Forever!

To the family and friends of Trooper Scott Burns I am deeply sorry for your lose. For that precious little girl who is going to grow up without her father being their physically b/c of one man's rage. I still do not understand why so many people choose a weapon in order to get out of a situation that is not right and most of all its not the easy way out as most think. To Michaela I pray for strength to get you through this and the guideness of the Lord to stay by your side. For that silly g/f of Brandon who thought it was ok not to say anything or even try to stop him for what he did just like we all do you face a day also and thats judgement day. My heart goes out to this family but just stay with the lord he will bring you through this.
God bless.
