A Henderson teenager died in a one-vehicle wreck Tuesday after his vehicle left the road and hit a tree in Rusk County.

Brian Lee Barnett, 18, was driving a 1996 Honda Prelude south on FM 840 about half a mile south of Henderson on Tuesday morning when his passenger-side tires went off the road, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety wreck report. The vehicle entered a side-skid, slid into the west ditch and struck a tree. Emergency responders cut into the vehicle to extract Barnett, who died at a Henderson hospital.

Cpl. Jesse Stewart of the Texas Department of Public Safety's Henderson office said the vehicle appeared to be traveling at an unsafe speed and Barnett was not wearing a safety belt.
