The Libri Foundation was established in 1989 for the sole purpose of helping rural libraries acquire new, quality, hardcover children's books they could not otherwise afford to buy. Since October 1990, the Foundation has donated over $5.8 million worth of new children's books to more than 3,300 libraries in all 50 states.

The Carthage Book Club met April 11, 2014 in the Murphy Payne Community Room at Panola College. Hostesses Allene Bankhead, Brenda Giles and Jo Nell Phillips greeted members. Each table was decorated with a trumpet surrounded by spring flowers. Members were welcomed by President Pam Goodson and the meal was blessed by Jackie Rodriguez. In keeping with the Jazz theme a New Orleans shrimp poboy, slaw, seafood gumbo with a lemon mousse was served for lunch.
