An advertisement appeared in the Feb. 6 edition of the News-Journal purchased, I assume, by the Mobberly Baptist Church and authored by their senior pastor. In the thinly disguised editorial the good pastor asserts that Allah is a false god and there is only, and I quote, "true God."

He goes on to further assert this is not the way for the Unity and Diversity Committee to achieve the "unity that was strived for that day."

Apparently Dr. Stone never took a course in comparative theology, or if he did they failed to mention one of the most respected religions in the world. So it may come as a surprise to Pastor Stone, and his followers, that Allah, Jehovah, Yahweh, and God are in fact one and the same. It's kind of a rose is a rose kind of thing. Also, as a friend of mine recently said; "you can't have a Unity and Diversity Committee without unity and diversity."

With comments like those of Mobberly's pastor, we may have diversity but it sure is hard to have unity.

And it is important to note that the individual who delivered that prayer was a Longview native, Air Force and Vietnam veteran, and my friend Saleem Shabazz.
