Don't give in to anti-Muslim hysteria, and don't stay silent

The greatest ally of any attempt to provoke a reaction to an ideology is silence. One of the goals of the thugs and murderers who perform the hideous acts such as those committed by the members of Al-Qaeda, ISIS and any others of their ilk is to provoke an attack on the supposed basis of their beliefs. These organizations do not represent the majority of Muslims anywhere in the world.
Imagine if there had been a wave of anti-Christian rhetoric following the murders and bombings committed by Eric Rudolph, the Olympic Park bomber, who murdered two people and injured over 100 others? The amount of objections to characterizing one religion or sect of a religion based on the acts of this individual would have been overwhelming.
So don't give in to the hysteria they wish to instill in us, and do not remain silent when those who do give in succumb to their designs. Do not allow those who would degrade and marginalize all Muslims based on the vile acts of a few criminals to go unanswered. When we fail to speak out and dispute the claims of a few, we give tacit consent to their views, conclusions, and hate.
Please, speak up and speak out. Letters to the editor, paid advertisements, or speeches are not always necessary. A simple word in the ear to some can be as effective. Just remind them they don't speak for you, your faith, or your organization.
