Hardwood Trees Dropping Leaves…

In Talk across the fence

We are getting calls every day from folks that are concerned and alarmed about their

hardwood trees, primarily oaks that are dropping or shedding leaves.

There are several possible reasons for this, herbicide damage, trees planted in low areas

that do not drain well and so on. In our case, blame it on the rainfall that we have had, it is

probably a root stress and the trees are stressed from all of the rainfall we have had over

the past several weeks.

This coupled with the heat and humidity adds to the problem. The trees will probably pull out of it fine and will leaf out next spring great. We have seen this before in past years and chances are the tree will recover and do fine. Keep and eye on the trees and watch for recovery next spring, if not before. If the tree is struggling to put on new leaves next year, you may have a problem with a weak, dying tree.
