An outgoing council member has endorsed Dr. Andy Mack in the 2015 mayoral race.

In a post to his public Facebook campaign page on Wednesday, Mack shared District 1 Councilman John Sims Endorsement.

"Andy, it is a great pleasure to endorse you as our next mayor.  Thank you for your service both in the past and in the future," Sims wrote. "There is no doubt that through your leadership Longview will continue to prosper and grow. ... If I can help you as your (sic) go forward, I am ready to serve."

Sims will leave the council in May due to term limits and will not serve with the city's new mayor.

Earlier during the election cycle, Sims chided District 4 Councilwoman Kristen Ishihara for publicly endorsing District 5 Councilman Richard Manley for the position.

Manley, Mack and G. Floyd are looking to replace Mayor Jay Dean, who will not seek re-election May 9 due to term limits after a decade in the office.
