Bright colorful dresses, sombreros, piñatas and the sounds of Mexican music will begin filling the air this weekend as area celebrations kick off this year’s Cinco de Mayo.
Most years, area schools also conduct their own internal events helping to educate children of the historical significance of the day along with fun activities appropriate to the culture.
This week’s #ThrowbackThursday photo is dated May 5, 1999, with description, “Paula Barron, left, and her dance partner Yair Rodriquez joined by other first-grade classmates perform a traditional Mexican dance Wednesday morning. The students at J.L. Everhart Elementary dressed in festive clothing to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.”
