Work will begin March 2 on the construction of the new Longview Animal Shelter and Adoption Center.
A 2 p.m. groundbreaking has been scheduled to launch RPR Construction of Tyler's work building the $5.75 million facility, city spokesman Shawn Hara said.
The City Council decided on Jan. 27 to run the facility internally and has begun the search for a director to help get the new shelter off the ground.
The facility will be built on 4.3 acres just north of Lear Park on H.G. Mosley Parkway, which was donated to the city by the Humane Society.
Construction designs were drawn by Connolly Architects and Consultants of Austin, with which the city had a $460,726 contract.
