This Saturday the doors will close at what many Longview residents would argue is a historical symbol for the city.

The closure was announced in late January when Cathy and Chelsea Cace said they felt after months of prayer and considering options that shutting the doors was the right choice.

Gerard Cace, son of Johnny Cace, husband to Cathy and father to Chelsea, had run the restaurant since the early 1980s before dying suddenly in 2012.

"I don't think we've properly dealt with that," Chelsea said. "We've been so busy."

It is in honor of all the memories and the legacy that began more than 66 years ago that this week’s #ThrowbackThursday photo is of the groundbreaking of Johnny Cace’s in 1964 on Marshall Avenue in Longview.
