The city of Longview will hold a public reception Monday for Scott Caron, whom City Manager David Willard is recommending to head up the Parks and Recreation Department.

The reception will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at City Hall, 300 W. Cotton Street before the council's meeting at 5:30 p.m.

The council will consider approving Caron, 41, for the position during the meeting.

Caron is the parks and recreation director for Rolla, Missouri and has a bachelor's degree in parks and recreation from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

He was selected out of about 50 applicants for the post and was one of five candidates interviewed in person April 24.

The City Council approved a proposal Dec. 11 to separate the department from the Community Services Department.

Caron and his wife, Jennifer, have twin 14-year-old boys, Alex and Tyler, and a daughter, Abby, 10.

Due to the city charter, the hiring of director-level positions are to be recommended by the city manager and considered for approval by the City Council.
