A vehicle proclaiming, "We are a Christian nation," with a large cross mounted on the back has been seen recently parked in front of the Central Fire Station in Longview.

The sighting comes not long after a cross that was part of another Longview fire station's Christmas display was relocated from city property after a complaint from the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

The cross at Fire Station No. 6 last year drew a complaint from the Wisconsin organization because they said it violated constitutional restrictions on government endorsing a religion. It is now being displayed on private property.

City spokesman Shawn Hara told the News-Journal that when City Hall received the complaint a year ago, "The decision was made to just let it be and deal with it the following year."

The truck that has been parked by the Central Fire Station in downtown Longview has the logo of downtown business Maness Furniture painted on the back.

The story about the relocation of the cross from Fire Station No. 6 on the News-Journal website drew more than 100 comments from readers, many of which said they thought the fire station should have been able to remain the site of the cross.
