Tatum’s Jayden Boyd and Beckville’s Amber Harris earned East Texas Player of the Week honors for their performances in games played Jan. 3-8.

Boyd averaged 25 points, 9.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 7.5 steals for Tatum as the Eagles notched convincing wins over Harleton (89-30) and Jefferson (103-42) in District 16-3A action.

After opening the week by scoring 21 points to go along with six rebounds, four assists, five blocks and five steals against Harleton, Boyd just missed recording a quadruple-double against Jefferson with 29 points, 13 rebounds, 10 steals and nine assists.

Tatum (14-5, 3-0) will visit West Rusk on Tuesday.

Harris and the Beckville Ladycats played three games last week, and Beckville went 2-1 with a loss to East Texas Homeschool and wins over Tyler HEAT in non-district play and a 40-36 win over Big Sandy in District 21-2A action.

Harris averaged 11.3 points, 14 rebounds, four steals and 2.3 assists for the week. She had a double-double against East Texas Homeschool with 15 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, a block and an assist, added five points, nine rebounds, two steals, a block and four assists against Tyler HEAT and capped the week with another double-double against Big Sandy — scoring 14 points to go along with 23 rebounds, seven steals and two assists.

Beckville will host Hawkins on Tuesday.

In other top performances from around East Texas last week (nominated by coaches):

GirlsGladewater’s Kiyona Parker averaged 15.5 points, 6.5 steals, four rebounds, three assists and three blocks in wins over New Diana and Hughes Springs.

Big Sandy’s Mikyla Bachert had 15 points, three assists and two steals against Brook Hill and 16 points, two assists and two steals against Beckville.

BoysOre City’s Ryan Webb scored 23 points and added nine rebounds, four assists and two steals against Hughes Springs and had 17 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals against White Oak.


Tatum is ranked No. 7 in this week’s Class 3A poll.

Other ranked East Texas teams include Sulphur Springs (14) and Lufkin (24) in 5A, Paris (23), Center (24) and Hudson (25) in 4A, Diboll (6) and Central Heights (11) in 3A, Douglass (3), Timpson (4), La Poynor (10), Martin’s Mill (11), Beckville (20) and Frankston (21) in 2A, Avinger (13), Chireno (14) and Wells (22) in Class A, Brook Hill (6, 5A private), Longview Christian School (6, 2A private) and Christian Heritage Classical School (6, 1 A private).

Top-ranked teams for the week are Richardson in 6A, Dallas Kimball in 5A, Faith Family in 4A, Dallas Madison in 3A, Lipan in 2A and Texline in Class A.


Brownsboro (5) and Palestine (21) in 4A, Winnsboro (7) and Central Heights (16) in 3A, Martin’s Mill (2), Douglass (4), Lovelady (5) and Woden (22) in 2A, Chireno (9) and Wells (19) in 2A, Bishop Gorman (4, 4A private), Athens Christian Prep (4, 1A private) and Longview St. Mary’s (10, 1A private) are the ranked East Texas teams this week.

Desoto in 6A, Cedar Park in 5A, Argyle in 4A, Canadian in 3A, Gruver in 2A and Sands in 1A are the week’s top-ranked squads.
