UNION GROVE 3, KERENS 2: GRAND PRAIRIE -Cannon Cowan reached on a fielder’s choice and later hustled home all the way from second base on a Carter Smith grounder on the infield as Union Grove completed an area sweep of Kerens with a 3-2 walk-off win.

The Lions, who opened the series with a 7-0 win, trailed 2-1 heading to the sixth on Saturday. Union Grove loaded the bases with no outs, but Kerens pitcher Tate Engel worked out of trouble with a strikeout and two fly balls on the infield.

The Lions’ Noah Mayhan led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple, scoring on a single by Kooper smith to tie things at 2-2. Cowan reached on a fielder’s choice grounder, moved to second when Carson Daniels walked and came around to score the game-winner on Smith’s infield grounder.

Daniels and Mayhan both doubled, and Kooper Smith and Daniels finished with two hits apiece.

Mathew Bower struck out five, walked five and gave up one earned run in 6.1 innings. Daniels earned the win, fanning one with no walks in two-thirds of an inning.


LETU 7, UT-DALLAS 3: SAN ANGELO — LeTourneau took the lead early on a two-run home run by Cody Lee, and rolled to a 7-3 win over UT-Dallas on Saturday in an American Southwest Conference Tournament winner’s bracket game at Angelo State University.

LETU has won three of its last four to improve to 23-19 for the year. The YellowJackets will face either Texas-Dallas or Louisiana College today.

Eli Birriel broke a 2-2 deadlock with a sacrifice fly, and LETU later used a one-out single by Brandon Ramirez as part of a two-run inning for a 5-2 cushion. The YellowJackets added to the lead in the ninth as Lee Hosie drew a leadoff walk and Birriel blasted a two-run home run.

Jared Schurig worked 4.1 innings, Ryder Lognion pitched four frames and Will Bradshaw also saw action on the hill for LETU, with Lognion picking up the win.


HARLETON 12, MARTIN’S MILL 0: TYLER — Ethan Cooner tossed a five-inning no-hitter, an Harleton opened the playoffs with a 12-0 win over Martin’s Mill.

Cooner struck out four with no walks, throwing 43 of his 58 pitches for strikes.

At the plate, Garret Handlin doubled, singled, drove in a run and scored once from the top of the lineup. JoJo Clark added two hits and three RBI, Kobe Ferguson two RBI and Cooner, Taber Childs and Bradley Smith an RBI apiece.
