WACO — At the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course, Longview’s Cade Bruce, who was competing as a medalist, tied for 15th after carding a 152 (77-75).

Belton I’s Dallas Hankamer won medalist honors with a 139 (70-69), two shots ahead of runner-up Matthew Watkins of Rockwall (73-68—141. Vandergrift Black’s Luke Dossey was third at 142 (71-71).

The top three teams (Austin Vandergrift Black, The Woodlands, Rockwall) and the top three individuals in the top 10 (Hankamer, Klein Cane’s Matthew Spaulding, Plano West’s Matt Comegys) not on the top three teams advance to the state tournament, which is scheduled for May 20-21 at Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown.



CANTON — Canton’s Tristan Nelson won medalist honors, while Coach Tim Moore’s Bullard Panthers and Van’s Austin Mitchell also secured state berths after Tuesday’s final round of the UIL Boys Class 4A Region II Golf Tournament at Canton’s Van Zandt Country Club.

The top three teams (Melissa, Bullard, Paris) advance to the state tournament, which is scheduled for May 20-21 at Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle.

Also, the top three individuals (Nelson, Paris North Lamar’s Jackson Nottingham, Mitchell) move on to state by finishing in the top 10 not on the three teams earning bids.

Gilmer’s Bryce Burns (81-79) and Mabank’s Josh German (81-79) carded 160s to tie for 10th and earned all-region.

Melissa won the team championship with a 624 (306-318), followed by Bullard (323-319—642) and Paris (332-320—652). Paris finished third by one stroke over Canton (329-234—653).

Spring Hill’s Logan Moore (86-80—166) tied for 18th

Gilmer finished with a 689 team total, led by Burns at 160. Dean Haws had a 172, Saige Hendrix ad 177, Kaleb Fitzgerald a 180 and Karson Martin a 193.

Pittsburg’s Grady Townsend finished with a two-day total of 205.



BULLARD — New Diana’s Lauren James, Paul Pewitt’s Ida Hansen and Hughes Springs’ Hannah McKinney all qualified for the UIL State Golf Tournament based on their finishes at the Class 3A Region II Golf Tournament held at Bullard’s Oak Hurst Golf Course.

Callisburg, Pottsboro and Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill earned trips to the May 13-14 state tournament based on their team scores.
