Chasity Austin recently became the fourth West Rusk softball player to lock up her academic and athletic future at the college level – and the third to leave the state — when she signed a national letter-of-intent with Northland College.

Austin, who projects as an outfielder in college, drove in 11 runs, scored 13 times and had doubles in five of her seven hits this season while playing in 19 of 35 games for the Lady Raiders.

She joins teammates Makana Morton (Southern Arkansas University), Brooklyn Floyd (Allen Community College) and Julie Waddell (Kilgore College) as Lady Raiders moving on to the college ranks.

Northland College, located in Ashland, Wisconsin, completes at the NCAA Division III level in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference along with Bethany Lutheran, Wisconsin-Supreme, St. Scholastica, Northwestern, Minnesota Morris, Martin Luther, Crown and North Central.

Northland finished 6-28 overall and 4-14 in the conference last season.
