COLLEGE STATION — After going 1-2 in Thursday pool play, the Spring Hill Panthers, making their second straight trip to the 7-on-7 state gathering, notched a 21-14 win over the La Vega Pirates Friday morning before falling 27-12 to Life High School of Waxahachie later in the day.
The Panthers started Thursday action with a hard-fought 27-26 win over the Hitchcock Bulldogs. The Graham Steers were 29-18 victors in game two and Boerne’s Greyhounds ran away with a 26-19 decision over the Panthers in the nightcap.
The Pleasant Grove Hawks, also in the same DII bracket with Spring Hill, took two of three Thursday and advanced all the way to the state title tilt before falling 34-27 to the Sunnyvale Raiders in the finals.
PG routed the Stephenville Yellowjackets 44-18 in Thursday first round action. The Hawks were able to outlast Brock’s Eagles 27-20 before slipping 26-20 to the Jourdanton Indians.
In a wild one Friday morning, Pleasant Grove notched a 40-34 win over Columbia and later got past the Melissa Cardinals 37-27 to reach the championship finals.
In other Friday action involving East Texas squads, Carlisle’s Indians were on the short end of a 38-18 loss to Comfort, while Ozona edged the Daingerfield Tigers, 27-24. The Falls City Beavers eked out a 32-27 win over Tenaha and Crane scored a 28-0 shutout of Arp.
Daingerfield and Tenaha both went 2-1 Thursday, while Arp and Carlisle were winless in six games.
