Summer Reading Club kickoff

The Longview Public Library will kick off its Summer Reading Club with a party from 10 a.m. to noon today.

The outdoor event always attracts a crowd to the library at 222 W. Cotton St., with fun foam, bounces houses, a DJ, popcorn, Kona Ice, bubbles, sidewalk chalk and more. The event is free and open to families of all ages.

The Summer Reading Club encourages children to keep reading all summer through prizes to achieve reading goals set by the program. The program includes a host of other free activities for children. Here’s a look at some of the upcoming events:

Super Smash Bros.: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays June 10 through July 22; Longview Public Library

Story Time: 10:30 a.m. English, 11:30 a.m. Spanish, Tuesdays June 11 through July 23; Longview Public Library

Summer Reading Club Performer — “Science Tellers”: 10:30 a.m. June 12; Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center, 100 Grand Boulevard, Longview

Summer Reading Club Movie — “How to Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World”: 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. June 13; Longview Public Library

Family Game Night, 6 to 8:30 p.m.: Each Thursday, Longview Public Library

Crafty Kids: 10 a.m. to noon Fridays June 14 through July 19; Longview Public Library

Gladewater Round-Up Rodeo

The Gladewater Round-Up Rodeo continues nightly through Saturday.

Gates open at 6 p.m. each night, with rodeo action starting at 8:15 p.m. at the Gladewater Rodeo Arena off U.S. 80 in Gladewater. Mutton bustin’ and a calf scramble will be held each night.

Tickets are $16 for adults and $8 for children ages 12 and younger. Tickets can be purchased at Cavender’s Boot City in Longview or online at .

Also, the Handicapable Rodeo, for children with disabilities, is 9 a.m. Sunday.

Downtown Longview Wine Swirl

Nineteen wineries from all over Texas will converge downtown to showcase their finest vintages at the inaugural Downtown Longview Wine Swirl, set 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Tyler Street and the surrounding area.

For a $35 ticket, guests will receive a commemorative wine glass, which they can use at each vendor to taste some of Texas’ best wines. In addition, they’ll be gifted a wine tote and a wine bottle opener.

Along with the wineries, local coffeehouses, craft breweries and restaurants will attend the event. Live music also is scheduled.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Longview Main Street program and One Hundred Acres of Heritage in efforts to preserve and revitalize Downtown Longview.

Pink Floyd Laser Spectacular

LeTourneau University’s Belcher Center will host the Pink Floyd Laser Spectacular at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Paramount’s show has been touring for more than 30 years, pairing original master recordings of Pink Floyd with lasers, lighting and video. The first half of the concert features the “Dark Side of the Moon” album, while the second half is the “Best of Floyd,” including “The Wall.” Audience members are provided 3-D glasses for the show.

Longview Summer Boat Show

The annual Longview Summer Boat Show will feature Plano Marine of East Texas and Nichols Marine today, Saturday and Sunday at the Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center.
