Upcoming activities at this organization or about this upcoming event: The Longview Silkies Hike is set June 1. The event is open to veterans and active duty and reserve members of all military branches. Registration check-in starts at 9 a.m. at the Lodge Sports Bar, 501 Spur 63 in Longview. Hikers are encouraged (but not required) to wear “silkies,” which are short training shorts made famous by Marines. The goal is to add humor to the event. The hike is roughly 10 miles, with rest stops; packs and boots are optional. Hikers are encouraged to wear patriotic and military-themed gear and be prepared for a great time. The goal is to unite the veteran community, facilitate social connections, eliminate isolation and improve the mental health of all who attend.
